Anonymous asked:

Hi! How are you? Do you have any advice on how to organize for finals (how to schedule your time, what to do....) thank you

rosallindfranklin-blog answered:

sure!

first off, i made a final exam planning printable pack, so you can check that out and see if it’s helpful

next, here’s what i do leading up to finals week:

  1. i make a list of every topic that will be on the final for each subject, and then i mark down the ones that i need to spend more time on
  2. then, i work backwards.  i like to spend the day before a final focusing only on that one particular subject–going over last-minute things, doing a practice test, and going to bed early.  so on a calendar or whatever, i mark the day before that final with “STUDY [SUBJECT]” (i’m an all-caps sort of person when it comes to studying)
  3. i like to work in order of topics learned.  so leading up to the day before the exam, i’ll study two to three topics a day, so i’ll mark down “study chapters 30-32″ or “review magnetic fields” or whatever.
  4. i also like to balance my study time.  so i might review a humanities subject in the morning and a science subject in the afternoon, so i have some variety.
  5. once i have the weeks roughly planned out in terms of what subjects i’m studying which days, i plan out the next day.  i like to use post-it notes so i can keep them with me, so i’ll do a detailed checklist of exactly what i’m doing that day in the order i plan to do it.
  6. and then it’s just a matter of getting it done.  i (try to) schedule breaks–one short episode of tv, chatting with a friend, taking a walk to get a chai latte.  i also tend to get up early anyways so i like to be in my study spot by 8am and get myself going by 8:30.  getting going from the start means you have less inertia to overcome (trust me, i’m a science major)

here’s some things i do to study, depending on the subject:

  • make flash cards
  • make summary sheets
  • quiz myself
  • talk myself through the notes, like i’m teaching someone
  • do practice problems
  • make mind maps
  • take practice tests
  • watch (and take notes on) khan academy videos for topics that i’m still struggling with

here’s some links for test taking:

and some links for taking care of yourself because that’s important too:

hope this helps! if you have any more questions, let me know!
